Jamaica Holidays

With its mesmerising mix of easygoing vibes and lively adventure, the Island of All Right will capture your heart.

Jamaica holidays come with a distinctive, impossible-to-resist soundtrack of reggae, dub and dancehall. It’s there, floating in the soft breeze, as you stretch out on a pristine ribbon of white sand, beach-service flag to hand, at your glossy all-thing-covered resort. It’s playing in the background as you stop for an authentic bite to eat between rainforest zipline tours and snorkelling expeditions. And it’s very much to the forefront as you dance until dawn beneath the stars at a buzzing open-air club.

We can help you take the pulse of this absorbing country at its electric capital, Kingston, where glamorous galleries and gourmet hangouts jostle for attention with murals, markets and street parties to exhilarating effect. We’ll introduce you to the finest spots along the coast, from chilled-out cocktails-on-the-sand Negril in the west, via everyone’s eternal favourite Montego Bay, to action-packed Ocho Rios halfway along the northern shores. Along the way, you’ll see a wilder side of Jamaica, from colourful coral reefs to tumbling waterfalls wrapped in rainforest. And, of course, there’s the food, whether you’re snapping up bags of peppered crayfish from a countryside street stall or picnicking on lobster patties in the shade of a seaside palm tree.

Talk to our Personal Travel Experts about creating your perfect Jamaica holiday, from stylish two-stop stays with a dash of urban bustle to carefree beach breaks for any age.

Where is Jamaica?
Jamaica is the West Indies’ third largest island and lies in the Greater Antilles with Cuba to the north and Hispaniola – shared between Haiti and the Dominican Republic – to the east. It has 635 miles of beach-edged Caribbean coastline and a rugged interior.

Kingston
Kingston is Jamaica’s pulsating capital, home to around a quarter of the population. Wedged between the Blue Mountains and a vast natural harbour, it’s a fascinating cultural hub where you’ll find the superb National Gallery, the unmissable Bob Marley Museum and historic Devon House, as well as the more down-to-earth joys of street dances, nightclubs and a staggering range of places to eat. Join the locals for fried fish at Hellshire Beach or Lime Cay, chill out at the former pirate stronghold of Port Royal and watch the sunset over the city from a chic rooftop bar.

Montego Bay
Framed by hills on a beach-lined coastline protected by coral reefs, Mo’Bay is Jamaica’s largest resort. Nightlife fans will want to stay at the heart of the action on seaside Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, also known as Hip Strip, which teems with bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Those after a more tranquil experience will find their ideal bolthole in the upmarket all-inclusives that stretch along the palm-shaded shoreline towards the east. Explore grand old plantation houses, play golf on manicured courses or go rafting along sleepy jungle rivers.

Negril
Nicknamed ‘the capital of casual’, laidback Negril hugs the westernmost point of Jamaica, making it the island’s best sunset-watching spot. Famed for its sheltered bays, azure seas and the powdery whiteness of the aptly named Seven Mile Beach, it draws in couples and young families to its quietly luxurious all-inclusives. Linger over seafood lunches with the sand below your feet, breeze across the waves on a windsurfer and snooze in the shade of a swaying palm ahead of a night of al fresco dancing.

Ocho Rios
At this well-established north-coast village-turned-resort, sporty couples and older families will find plenty to keep them entertained. Behind the string of beaches dotted along its four-mile coastline, a densely forested hinterland criss-crossed by streams and rivers provides the perfect outdoor playground. You can fly through the treetops on a zipline course, venture underground through a maze of atmospheric caverns and marvel at the cascading beauty of Dunn’s River Falls (best experienced without the cruise ship crowds). Chill out afterwards in Ochi’s vibrant craft markets, boutiques and authentic eateries.

Food & Drink
Jamaican cuisine offers something for all tastes and appetites, from sublime seafood to moreish snacks. Stop at roadside stalls for conch soup, custard apples and fresh-from-the-shell coconut jelly, or head into Kingston for some of the island’s dressiest international dining. Almost every all-inclusive resort has a relaxed on-site eatery specialising in spicy jerk chicken, fish and pork among their wide selection of global restaurants, which are usually included in the cost of your holiday. As for drinks, there’s everything from locally made dark rum and ubiquitous Red Stripe lager to fiery ginger beer, fresh guava juice and Blue Mountain coffee.

Natural Jamaica
Away from the beach-fringed coast, Jamaica’s verdant interior is a paradise for adventure seekers. Scale the heights on mountain hikes through misty woodlands filled with orchids, go rafting along rainforest-edged rivers in search of crocodiles, parrots and giant swallowtail butterflies, and cool down with a plunge into shady pools at spectacular waterfalls. Offshore, you can dive and snorkel among extensive stretches of biodiverse coral reefs, home to angelfish, sea turtles and many other marine species, or sail along the shore in search of tiny coves, sea caves and dramatic cliffs.
