Xandari Resort & Spa

Artistic retreat close to San Jose.

An eclectically designed, vibrant all-villa resort set in the hills overlooking the Central Valley and San Jose.

You’ve just flown into San Jose and you’re eager to begin experiencing the natural beauty and therapeutic effects of the jungle: enter Xandari. This hillside haven is less than half an hour away from the airport, however, it’s just as you have imagined this beautiful country to be (but still close enough to the buzzing capital – the perfect acclimatisation spot). Within the resort’s 40-acre reserve, there are three-mile forest trails, a river and waterfalls where you can just sit, close your eyes and soak up the tropical birdsong and rushing water soundtrack.

Why we love Xandari Resort & Spa

  • It’s only 20 minutes from the airport but surrounded by the jungle, making it the perfect place to spend a few days on arrival

  • The resort embraces a farm-to-table philosophy with plenty of produce sourced in the resort’s own plantations

  • It’s an eye-catching retreat with both the architecture and art conceived by the owners

  • There are just 24 vibrant villas, each with spectacular jungle or Central Valley views

Dining at Xandari sets the tone for the rest of your Costa Rica adventure, with much of the produce sourced from a metaphorical stone’s throw away. While the ingredients may have low food miles, the cuisine is influenced from cultures around the world; you can enjoy Californian flavours and richly flavoured Mediterranean inspired dishes, alongside Costa Rican favourites.

Restaurant
The open-air restaurant is set out over three tiers, each of which has panoramic views of the Central Valley.

What's included

Breakfast at the restaurant.

The elevated Ayura Wellness is Xandari’s spa village where palm-topped jalapas are perched on the hillside. Treatments are given by well-trained therapists and only naturally sourced products from the resort’s gardens are used. After your massage, continue your chill-out session in the valley-view hot tub.

In recognition of their eco and community credentials, Xandari Resort & Spa has been certified by the Costa Rican Institute in Sustainable Tourism. These initiatives include the creation of organic compost from food and garden waste, the use of energy efficient lighting, a focus on water conservation, the banning of single-use plastics, and the use of non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning products. When it comes to community programmes, there’s a real focus on the long-term employment of residents from the small village of Tacacorí, the resort’s nearest village; there’s a real sense of unity between tourism and local life.
