At the newest of LUX*’s Mauritius gems, there’s a focus on fun, wellbeing and relaxed, sun-kissed days.
Modern may be an overused word when it comes to design, however the architecture and style of LUX* Grand Baie more than warrant the description. From the outset, the tone is set by the sail-inspired curve of the lobby building – a 21st-century nod to the traditional Mauritian sailboat. When you step inside, the vibe is cool, lively, innovative and, above all, wonderfully laidback. The resort backs a beach that’s pretty much an island icon and a calm lagoon which will tempt you at any time of year. The emphasis on wellness goes way beyond just spa treatments (which are of course, exceptional); there’s a thermal bath journey that invigorates, a mind and body studio that calms and a cycle studio that energises.
Why we love LUX* Grand Baie
-
The architecture and design manage to be both ultra-modern and warm, with a real sense of place
-
There’s a focus on wellness and health that encompasses everything from a stunning spa to a rooftop running track
-
All the rooms have a Kelly Hoppen design, but if you upgrade to a residence, penthouse or villa they have a private pool as well
-
It’s a paradise for foodies, with options that run from sophisticated modern Asian cuisine to homemade ice cream
Rooms
Kelly Hoppen is a name that’s synonymous with ultra-modern and super sleek hotel design. She’s worked her magic again with LUX* Grand Baie’s 116 rooms, which have relaxing and refreshing neutral tones with bold anthracite elements, modern artwork and light stone-toned soft furnishings. The Residences, Penthouses and Villas each have a private pool and can accommodate four or more adults and at least a couple of children so they make an excellent option for families or a gathering of friends. With a second bedroom and a private pool, the Pool Residences are perfect for both families or a small group of friends.
Facilities
With three very different restaurants supplemented by a sleek café, an ice cream parlour and an experimental food lab, the food is definitely part of the fun here.
Beach Rouge
The all-day restaurant is steps from the white-sand beach and has epic views to accompany breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is an à la carte venue rather than a buffet, and there are mouthwatering dishes throughout the day. Between meals, it is a place to see and be seen thanks to its three bars and beach club atmosphere.
Ai KISU
With its low-light design, open kitchens and Asian-influenced menu, this is a refined option for dinner: think dim sum and tempura, sushi and sashimi and Fire Box grilled seafood.
Bisou
At this sun-kissed drinking and dining venue on the rooftop, you can soak in the infinity pool and have your lunch floated over to you on a tray. During the day, the DJ plays chilled-out tunes – think Ibiza daytime vibes – while at night the tempo rises and the party begins.
Maison LUX*
At this Milanese-style cafe you can get your morning coffee and pastries as well as an afternoon gelato, a luxurious box of chocolates and a nightcap.
ICI
A favourite with younger guests and the sweet-toothed, this ice cream parlour is something of a staple at LUX* resorts.
Club Ai KISU For night owls, the cool nightclub serves up expertly mixed drinks, DJ sets and musicians until 2am.
The Food Lab
Dine at the chef’s table and get a sneak taste of the next culinary wonders that might appear on the resort menus, take part in a wine tasting or learn some new skills during a cooking class.
The gelati and sorbets at ICI are made in small batches using whatever ingredients are at their best that day, so there are always new and delicious flavours to try.

In the eight treatment rooms, cutting-edge technologies combine with natural products and ancient techniques to create signature therapies* that will leave you more relaxed than you thought possible.
Mat-based Pilates, yoga, meditation, stretching and release work classes (private* and small group) are available at the resort’s stylish Niyama Studio, and there are also sunrise yoga sessions on the beach for early risers.
Guests who don’t want to interrupt their fitness training are well-catered for. There’s a fantastic gym with a full complement of cutting-edge cardio and strength machines, a dedicated group cycle studio space, and more than 25 group fitness classes a week. Then there’s Muscle Up on the Roof, the Indian Ocean’s first outdoor wellness experience where you’ll find two 30-metre running tracks and a fitness frame, MyBeast, with 12 workout stations.
Water-sports fans can enjoy complimentary windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, pedal boating, snorkelling and waterskiing. For an extra fee, you can become a waterskiing expert with a private lesson or several.
