An eco-friendly hotel which has been incorporated into its natural setting.
Built to blend with its surroundings, Heritance Kandalama is one of the renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa’s most eco-friendly designs. Integrating the rock face it nestles against, all of the beautifully designed rooms, suites and public areas look out over the forest – which is alive with monkeys and birds – the lake, and Sigiriya Rock in the distance. This is an eco-tourist’s paradise.
Why we love Heritance Kandalama
-
It’s in a wonderfully scenic lakeside setting in Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, within easy reach of five World Heritage Sites
-
The hotel offers lots of enriching adventures such as bird watching with the resident naturalists or a jungle trek to an ancient village
-
It’s a masterpiece of environmentally sensitive design from one of Sri Lanka’s most famous architects
-
When you want to relax, there are three beautiful swimming pools, one of which seems to flow into the lake, and a spa
This resort has earned internationally recognised certification that conform to standards set by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
Rooms
The 152 rooms and suites here are located in one of two wings, one of which has views of Dambulla Rock and the other – our particular favourite – overlooks the iconic Sigirya Rock Fortress.
For the best views, and the luxury of a whirlpool bath, opt for a Deluxe Sigiriya Room.

With the main restaurant featuring themed buffets every evening, a fine-dining venue, an all-day café and a bar, plus several private dining experiences, there’s enough variety to keep guests happy.

Kanchana Lounge & Bar
The laidback bar is the place to come for a cup of tea, a refreshing cold drink or an evening cocktail with live entertainment.
