Six Senses Kaplankaya

Feel-good luxury

Six Senses Kaplankaya cuts an imposing and modern presence in the ancient wild olive scenery. This high-specification, well-considered resort sits almost alone on the coastline, spilling down a hillside where it meets rocky coves and beaches.

Don’t be surprised to see guests arriving by yacht or helicopter – the Six Senses brand attracts a well-heeled crowd, scattering to the resort’s five private beaches or two large swimming pools, disappearing to rejuvenate into the folds of the vast spa, or joining one of the hotel-led activities. And that’s not to mention those who choose to linger in the exquisite surroundings of their accommodation. After all, plenty of the rooms have private pools and large terraces of their own.

Why we love Six Senses Kaplankaya

  • The remote setting is sublime. Sea breezes sweep in from the Aegean, gently caressing beachgoers, who can choose between five beaches – all private, with one dedicated to families. There are two huge outdoor pools, plus a third tucked away inside if there’s ever a rogue rainy day.

  • The science-led spa is the crowning glory of this resort – and worth making a journey to Turkey for in itself. The treatments are wide-ranging, and there’s an incredible hydrotherapy circuit, including watsu, a mud chamber, an igloo, and a salt grotto.

  • The entry-level rooms here would be the most luxurious suites in other hotels, with walk-in wardrobes (which will make unpacking a breeze), an oversized bathroom and an enormous terrace.

  • Families are exceedingly well looked after here, with wholesome activities complementing a line-up of sports activities at the kids’ club. You’ll find basketball, badminton, and tennis on dry land, and snorkelling, kayaking, and SUP on the waves. There’s even a beach bar just for families.

Dining here is a real treat – plentiful, delicious, and sustainably sourced – and all in stylish surroundings. Local flavours are the champions of the menu, with dishes created with freshly harvested produce wherever possible, including from the hotel’s own organic garden. If the menu is the star of the restaurant, the views make a strong case for the role, with gorgeous vistas across the Aegean Sea to Greek islands from almost every outpost.

Sage and Sea Restaurant and Bar
The main hotel restaurant offers a traditional Turkish-style breakfast and a wide-ranging dinner menu. Huge windows frame beautiful views, and you can dine inside or out.

Wild Thyme Restaurant and Bar

Ortakoy Beach Bar and Barbeque Grill

Meze by the Sea Restaurant and Bar
Al fresco dining with freshly caught fish and traditional Turkish mezze dishes.

Family Beach Bar

When the resort was originally built, it was a pure spa hotel, with 10,000m² was dedicated to world-class spa facilities. Although things are more diverse under the Six Senses brand, the spa is still very much the piece de resistance, focusing on experiences designed to make you feel better, and with experts on hand to optimise your well-being through sleep, nutrition, movement, and mindfulness.

If it helps give you a sense of the scale of the spa, there are 38 treatment rooms. The hydrothermal areas are vast—a Watsu pool, hammams, crystal steam room, igloo, salt grotto… you get the idea.

Go diving off Turkey's Panayir Island, or try sailing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, kneeboarding, and waterskiing – they’re all available here. For something gentler, start with snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding, or canoeing around the bays.

The resort is nestled in rock formations, with green roofs and biophilic walls. Its organic farms and gardens provide fresh, high-quality food and drink, reducing packaging and transportation impacts. Sustainable practices include composting, glass crushing, wastewater reuse, and heat recovery cooling. The resort is committed to a plastic-free and zero-waste philosophy, eliminating plastic and promoting upcycling and recycling.

You can support local village women by purchasing their handmade products at the monthly Local Market event, held at the resort. The sales profits help these women make a livelihood, and Six Senses provides them with training and support to grow their businesses.

Children are warmly welcome here. It’s certainly not your usual waterpark/mini disco combo that you’ll find in other family hotels in Turkey, although there’s just as much here to keep them occupied. The approach to families is wholesome and organic, with nutritious children’s menus and a pristine kids club for ages 4-12 features activities like recycling workshops, cooking classes, and yoga and meditation.

Children 5 and under eat free from the children’s menu. Babysitting services are available throughout the day when pre-booked and private swimming lessons can be arranged.
