The Top 10 Things We Love About Kuramathi Maldives

Kuramathi Maldives has been a favourite island of ours for many years; an exciting mix of incredible food, friendly service and fantastic facilities. We decided to delve a little deeper and pick the top 10 reasons why we love Kuramathi.

1 –The food

From the simplest snack to the most elaborate menu, there will be something at one of the 12 restaurants to match any craving. If staying on Full Board or All Inclusive, you’ll dine at one of the three main restaurants, each offering a delicious, ever-changing buffet with live cooking stations and an array of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Select All Inclusive is definitely the option for foodies. The package includes a selection of wines and you can dine in all of the nine à la carte restaurants for something a little more special. If you love your seafood then try The Reef and for fine dining, make sure you visit Duniye. Other themed restaurants include Italian, Thai, Indian, Japanese – the choice of where to eat is incredible.

2 – The villas

All of the residences on the island are decorated in an understated Maldivian style that exudes relaxation. You could add some indulgence to your stay by opting for a villa with a hot tub or go for some extra space and unwind in the huge Honeymoon Pool Villa. There are also pool villas at the edge of the beach, two-storey beach houses that are perfect for families, and chic water villas with private pools for the ultimate in Maldives luxury.

3 – Perfect for families

The choice of rooms and activities at Kuramathi Maldives makes it a great choice for a family holiday. For the kids aged 3-12, there is the Bageecha kids club where there’s a range of exciting activities that changes daily – the Sunday treasure hunt is a real adventure for little pirates. But the kids don’t have to be in the kids’ club to have fun, there are loads of educational activities for all the family to get involved in, not to mention adventures in the island's Semi Submarine.

4 –So much to do

Kuramathi has created a really diverse activity and excursion programme. From visits to local islands and deep sea fishing to submarine trips and starlit discos; not to mention the gym, tennis court and three pools on the island, there’s plenty to keep you busy. The lagoon is perfect for a snorkelling adventure and you may see some incredible marine life such as turtles, manta rays and reef sharks. A favourite way to enjoy the evening is the cinema under the stars where you can relax in front of the big screen whilst stretching out on the beach.

5 – Arrive from above

Although many prefer to sit back and enjoy a bracing speedboat transfer, an insider tip is to indulge and step on board an awe-inspiring seaplane flight from the airport. Look down over the stunning archipelagos and try to catch a glimpse of some of the larger marine life – it’s certainly not a time to forget your camera. Setting down on the water, you will be greeted on the wooden jetty that stretches from the white sand and stands over the unbelievably clear lagoon, allowing you to see vibrant coral and colourful tropical fish.

6 – The space

The Maldives islands are often thought of as remote beach resorts but Kuramathi Maldives is much larger than most. This extra land and the clever design using the dense forest of the island give it a real sense of space and a great place to wander. So many guests come back and tell us that it never feels overcrowded and it’s not unusual, at some points, to feel like they were the only ones there.

7 - The romance

Kuramathi Maldives is the perfect setting to celebrate a romantic milestone. Whether you’d like to toast your anniversary on a sunset cruise or pop the big question on the stunning sandbank (a seemingly endless stretch of white sand going out to sea), the resort is an enchanting location to reaffirm your love.

8 – The Spa

A visit to the restful Kuramathi Spa will add an extra layer of tranquility to your stay. A harmonious space built amongst the lush vegetation at the heart of the island, Kuramathi Spa offers many treatments and programmes to soothe and relax in an incredible setting. The water pavilion overlooking the lagoon can be used for a couple's massage to ignite extra romance.

9 – The watersports

The draw of the Maldives for many is the beautifully blue lagoons that surround the islands. Aqua Sports offers windsurfing, paddle boarding and water-skiing and for those thrill-seekers out there, parasailing and speedboat-pulled inflatables are also on offer. For those looking to go deeper, the experts at Kuramathi’s dive school have been delving into this part of the Indian Ocean for almost 25 years and will know exactly which of the 20 local dive sites will be perfect for what wildlife you’re seeking.

10 – The sustainability

Learn more about the Maldives at the eco-centre, headed up by the Resident Marine Biologist who will both entertain and educate about this unique part of the world. An advantage of having a marine biologist working on the island is that they can join you on a snorkelling trip and point out the most interesting residents of the ocean. Kuramathi Maldives is very focused on the environment and this has been recognised through the Travelife Gold certification, which they’ve been awarded 10 years in a row. The resort runs many initiatives, like the coral reef protection programme and hydroponic garden, to look after this fragile eco system. Drinking water is also filtered and bottled on the island. A Kuoni holiday is about those ‘wow’ moments that make it stand out from the average and we think this is exactly why we have such a great relationship and have worked with Kuramathi Maldives for so long. For those seeking rest and recouperation, a family adventure or indulgent romance, a paradise awaits.
