Brushing the clouds in the high-altitude Himalayas, the hill town of Pelling sits ensconced in the rolling mountains. On a clear day, you can see the snow-laden peaks of Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, peeping through the narrow streets. A leisurely stroll could lead to staggering vistas that only a few adventurous people will ever see, of far rolling tea plantations, high falling waterfalls and glassy lakes such as the sacred Khecheopalri decorated by colourful fluttering prayer flags.
Among the nature you can still see some of the oldest monasteries in the Sikkim state such as the Pemayangtse Monastery honing human perfection since the 18th-century. Today it houses preserved ancient scripture and beautiful Tibetan paintings. Nearby Sikkim’s second capital, Rabdentse, lies embedded in the forest where you can investigate its crumbling structures and chortens used by the royal family to offer prayers to their deities.
