Arrival in Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya. Upon arrival in Nairobi, a local representative will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your comfortable hotel. Overnight at Fairmont The Norfolk.
Things to do:
Nairobi
Today is free to relax and explore the capital city of Nairobi. An optional visit to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi National Park is recommended. This is the most successful rescue programme for elephants in the world, with many of the babies being released back into the wild in Tsavo after around three years of rehabilitation. Overnight at Fairmont The Norfolk.
Things to do:
Nairobi & Samburu
After breakfast, fly by light aircraft to the Samburu National Reserve. This scorching lowland is named after the nomadic Samburu people who still roam the region by camel. Your base for the next 2 nights is a luxury tented camp on the banks of a river, offering close encounters with elephants throughout the day. This evening, dine under the stars with a delicious dinner served by lantern light. Overnight at Elephant Bedroom Camp.
Things to do:
Samburu
Enjoy 2 game drives in the Samburu National Reserve, famous for its own rare species known as the 'Special Five’. These are the Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich and Beisa Oryx. Spotting one of these highly unusual creatures is a truly memorable experience. Exploring the reserve, you’re also likely to spot members of its ancient Samburu community, dressed in crimson robes and adorned with intricately beaded jewellery. Overnight at Elephant Bedroom Camp.
Things to do:
Samburu & Maasai Mara
Fly to the Maasai Mara, an incredible reserve that plays host to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the world. You’ll spend the next 3 nights at an award-winning tented camp surrounded by a private conservancy. In the afternoon, head out on a game drive in search of the Big Five, big cats and a whole host of other wildlife. Back at camp, enjoy a 24-hour butler service and sundowers from the sunken bathtub on your private deck. Overnight at Mara Bushtops.
Things to do:
Maasai Mara
During your stay at Mara Bushtops there’s the opportunity to take a thrilling hot-air balloon safari to gain a whole new perspective of the Maasai Mara. Wake early and watch as the balloon is prepared, then take flight and drift upwards as the sun rises and wildlife roam below. The memorable flight is followed by an impressive Champagne breakfast that will be set up as your balloon comes into land. This is our most popular optional experience in Kenya. The rest of the day is spent on further game drives into the heart of this wildlife-rich reserve with an expert driver/guide. Tonight, you may choose to enjoy a private dining experience in your tent. Overnight at Mara Bushtops.
Things to do:
Maasai Mara
In addition to the daily game drives, there’s also the option to join an expert guide on a walking safari. Following tracks and identifying markings and droppings, your guide will bring you to within a safe distance of impala herds, zebra and sometimes giraffe. This unique experience is only possible due to the private conservancy location - you may never get closer to unspoiled nature. Returning to camp, unwind with a massage or treatment at the award-winning Amani Spa. Overnight at Mara Bushtops.
Things to do:
Maasai Mara & Departure
After breakfast, fly back to Nairobi. Alternatively, if you’re travelling on to Kenya’s coast, you can fly directly from the Mara to Mombasa in the afternoon.
Another stop?
We recommend finishing your African adventure with a beach stay on the white sands of Zanzibar, or its small sister island of Pemba, In Tanzania.
