Best time to visit Antigua
Antigua has a hot, tropical climate with refreshing breezes from the trade winds. Temperatures and sunshine don’t vary too much throughout the year, making it a popular destination for swimming and watersports year-round – however, it’s worth considering the humidity before you go. December to April is Antigua’s high season and the coolest, driest time of year, with an average daily maximum temperature of around 28.5°C. The wet season runs from mid-June to mid-November and can have short spells of heavy rainfall and nighttime thunderstorms. There is still a lot of sunshine during this time but it can get quite humid and muggy. Humidity is highest in August and September, and the risk of hurricanes is greatest from mid-August to mid-October.

Antigua in January
If you’re looking for some solid winter sun then January is a good time of year to visit Antigua. The maximum daily average temperature is around 28°C while the humidity and rainfall is lower than much of the year ahead. You can look forward to an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day for the rest of the winter months and into early spring.
Antigua in February
The pleasant Antigua weather continues in February. Temperatures, sunshine hours and breezes are much the same as in January, but February also sees the lowest amount of rainfall of any month, with an average of just 86mm.
Antigua in March
For travellers considering when to visit Antigua, March is a good option – there’s more rainfall than in February but still less than in January on average. Maximum daily average temperatures creep up to 28.5°C and the humidity is lower than any other month of the year, so it’s the perfect time to get out and explore the island.
Antigua in April
April is one of the best months to visit Antigua. Daily average sunshine from April to May now reaches up to 8 hours per day, and you can expect temperatures of around 29°C on average with similarly low rainfall to February. Time your visit to experience Antigua Sailing Week – this week of world-class sailing and fantastic parties at the end of April is one of the major events in the World Sailing calendar. The spring months are also some of the windiest; the Antigua and Barbuda International Kite Festival is held around Easter time each year.
Antigua in May
May is the last month of dry Antigua climate before the humidity and rainfall begin to increase over the summer. There’s lots of sunshine throughout the month and maximum daily average temperatures of around 30°C, with plenty of cooling winds to help take the edge off the heat. Availability tends to be better in May compared to the peak winter and spring months.
Antigua in June
Similar to May, June is a good alternative month to consider – it falls after the busier spring months but before the wet season really kicks in from July onwards. June has the highest wind speeds of the year, but the average sunshine hours and relatively low rainfall are consistent with the previous months.
Antigua in July
July signals the early stages of the wet season, with rainfall rising to an average of around 155mm. You can still expect summery weather though – the temperature in Antigua in July reaches up to 30-31°C, plus there’s a yearly high of 8 sunshine hours per day on average. If you’re in Antigua from the end of July to early August you can experience Carnival, a colourful and lively celebration of the end of slavery on the island – prices may be higher around this time.
Antigua in August
Antigua weather in August is marked by intense sunshine and year-high temperatures of up to 31°C, but with significantly more rainfall than the spring months. The drop in winds compared to July means you’ll also notice the increasing humidity a lot more – it may be too humid for an active holiday during this time but that shouldn’t put you off sunbathing.
Antigua in September
September is in the middle of the hurricane season, making it one of the most humid months of the year and not necessarily the best time to go to Antigua. There’s plenty of sun to enjoy but if you’re finding the weather a bit erratic and want to avoid the more frequent downpours, head to the capital, St John’s for attractions including the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda.
Antigua in October
If you’re weighing up when to go to Antigua, rainfall is at its highest during October at a little under 200mm on average. That said, there are still up to 8 hours of sunshine per day on average with temperatures hovering around 30.5°C, so the short-but-sharp showers clear up quickly and shouldn’t detract from otherwise sunny weather.
Antigua in November
November is the last month of the wet season in Antigua, so the humidity is still high. Rainfall does decrease slightly though, and compared to their highest levels from August to October the temperatures also drop to around 29.5°C. The average daily sunshine of around 7 hours remains consistent from now into the New Year.
Antigua in December
December marks the start of the high season in Antigua, as the rainfall begins to taper off. The drop in humidity and increase in average wind speeds make December cooler than the autumn months, with enviable temperatures of around 28.5°C. The best time to visit Antigua if you want to see the island at its greenest is from now into January; December is a great option for some end-of-year sun, but there will be more visitors and higher prices.
