Pangkor Laut Resort
One-of-a-kind private island jungle journey
An exotic hideaway set on an idyllic rainforest-clad island off Malaysia’s west coast.
In the Straits of Malacca sits a privately owned 300-acre island exclusively home to Pangkor Laut Resort. It’s a paradise of palm trees, wildlife and white sands, where restaurants serve fresh seafood and an infinity pool almost drops into the sea. There are holistic treatments in the cocoons of the spa and villas set on stilts over the sea.
Why we love Pangkor Laut Resort
-
A tiny dot on the map, this privately owned island is only accessible to guests.
-
Swimming in Emerald Bay’s crystal-clear waters.
-
The treks through thick green rainforest interior with a resident naturalist.
-
The indulgent Spa Village with its Japanese bathhouse, Shanghai scrubs and Ayurvedic huts.
Rooms
The 140 villas and suites are scattered across the resort and on stilts over the sea – a unique choice in Malaysia. Garden, Hill and Beach Villas are set on the island, some overlooking the sea, while the Sea Villas and Sea Suites (available until 31 March 2024) sit over the water. The resort also has overwater Spa Villas close to the Spa Village, and if you opt for one of these, you can enjoy access to the Spa Village pool. Families or friends travelling together should opt for one of the Hillside Estates. With three or four bedrooms, each comes with plenty of indoor and outdoor space, pool and butler service.
Facilities
Take a culinary tour of Malaysia, Asia and beyond at the resort's four restaurants and two bars. Dig into fresh seafood at adults-only fine dining restaurant, Fisherman's Cove, taste authentic Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese-style home cooking at Uncle Lim's Kitchen, or alternatively, choose from its romantic private dining experiences. Due to the secluded setting of the resort, we highly recommend you upgrade to the full board package.
Feast Village
The main restaurant of the resort, Feast Village includes interactive experiences, local specialities, a café, patisserie and wine cellar.
Fisherman's Cove
The seafood menus at Fisherman's Cove are based on sustainable fishing practices.
Uncle Lim's Kitchen
Experience homestyle Chinese dishes and the views across Royal Bay.
Royal Bay Beach Club
Asian and international dishes are served on the terrace overlooking the swimming pool and ocean beyond.
Chapman's Bar
Serving refreshments on the beach.
Jamu Bar
Set within the Spa Village, this is the place for healthy salads and drinks.
Named after Chef Lim Fang Tat, Uncle Lim's is a great place to savour authentic Chinese cuisine in a wonderful setting amongst the rocks.
What's included
Breakfast at Feast Village.
Upgrade options
Full Board • Breakfast at Feast Village • Lunch at Chapman’s Bar or Royal Bay Beach Club • Dinner at Feast Village, Uncle Lim’s Kitchen or Fisherman’s Cove (adults-only).
A unique four-acre retreat that honours the healing cultures of the region, the Spa Village Pangkor Laut creates wellness programmes that combine physical and spiritual health and wellbeing, and are based on one of four concepts: Rejuvenation and Longevity, Relaxation and Stress Reduction, Detoxification and Romance. This is one of the best spas in Malaysia, but don't just take our word for it - it's received a wide range of awards from the likes of Condé Nast Traveller and CNNgo.
Every spa treatment begins with a complimentary Bath House Ritual featuring a soothing footbath with a Chinese Foot Pounding experience, traditional Malay 'circulating' bath, Japanese-style cleansing followed by a heated Rotenburu dip, and a Shanghai Scrub. The treatments themselves have been inspired by ancient rituals from China, Thailand, Bali and of course, Malaysia.
The spa is home to eight pavilions where treatments are administered, three healing huts for Malaysian, Chinese and Ayurvedic therapies. If a wellbeing holiday is your focus then we highly recommend choosing one of the overwater Spa Villas which offer direct access to the Spa Village.
Start your day with a yoga session on the Spa Villa deck. For those wanting to keep up their exercise programme there is a gym*, tennis* and squash*. Other activities include jungle treks*, tours of nearby Pangkor or you may prefer to experience the beauty of Pangkor Laut with a sunset cruise around the island.
Take a kayak or paddleboard to explore the coastline or join a boat ride to explore the nearby islands where you can go for a swim and enjoy a gourmet picnic.
Minimum stays apply.
Minimum age 16 in Spa Villas, Sea Villas, Sea Suites and the Fisherman’s Cove Restaurant.
The resort is not recommended for those with walking difficulties.
A tourist tax is payable locally at the resort.
